UCS FIrmware 3.1(x) Deprecated Hardware

Terry MacDougal

We currently have some hardware (adapters M81KR) that are not supported with 3.1x firmware release. This will cause the upgrade to fail. Since this is lab/testing gear has anyone tried decommissioning the blades, do the upgrade, then inserting the deprecated hardware?

Thanks

There are built-in checks to detect that deprecated hardware was inserted after the upgrade. So, in short whether Gen1 gear is inserted before or after the upgrade will result in the hardware not being detected.

Hey Terry,

You can decom the blades to conduct the upgrade. After the upgrade is complete, the blades will fail discovery with a message similar to "Adapters not supported on this software"

HTH,

Wes

So, can I not then deploy 2.2(x) version firmware to the affected hardware, leaving all others at 3.1(x)?

The key here is the infrastructure bundle, the brains of the operation. If the infrastructure (A Bundle) is 3.1, it will not recognize any unsupported hardware components, regardless of their firmware version.

Let me know if you need further clarification.
