UCS Upgrade from 2.2(8) to 3.2(3)

We are planning to upgrade our UCS infrastructure from 2.2(8) to 3.2(3).

Unfortunaly we have 4 of our 40+ blades that have an OS that does not support the 3.2(3) firmware.

Can i still plan to upgrade my infrastructure and all the eligible blades to 3.2(3) and let the four blades with the non compatible OS with the 2.2(8) firmware in order to respect the compatibility matrix for UCS Server (and under cover of the cross-version firmware compatibility) ?

I would like to avoid updating OS on the 4 non compatible blades before upgrading in 3.2(3).

Thanks in advance for any advices.

Math.

Greetings.

Please see cross version firmware support section at  https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/unified_computing/ucs/release/notes/CiscoUCSManager-RN-3-2.html#concept_4B24EBA51A3940EEA3AB50860D963F57 .  It shows that running "A" infrastructure version of 3.23 will support blade/rack server versions of 3.23 back through 2.28

Hi Kirk,

This means that the infrastructure firmware has no effect on the server OS compatibility ?

The HCL at https://ucshcltool.cloudapps.cisco.com/public/ response concerns only the server firmware who would be compatible with the OS ?
That's what I had a hard time understanding.

Thank you very much Kirk !

Correct.  It's the blade or C series bundle version that you are matching up with the HCL for driver/interop purposes.
