Unable to connect to console

Hi all,

I'm having a problem with one particular blade on my UCS system.

I can connect to the UCS manager via the webpage, select the server and go to the console, get "Connecting viewer" and the console pops up, except on one where it just sits "Connecting viewer".

If I try on another browser, it downloads a kvm.jnlp which, when run, gives:

java.io.FileNotFoundException: https://<servername>/ucsm/signed/@avocentNuova@

We're at a loss on how to solve this and could do with some suggestions. Oh, we're running Java 1.8.0_421.

Thanks,

You do not specify any details like:

  • UCS FI model/PID
  • UCSM version
  • Server model/PID
  • Server CIMC version

Since you are asking about Java KVM then I'm guessing M4 (End-of-Support/End-of-Life) or earlier.
Newer UCSM 4.2 (I think) got rid of this horrible old Java KVM software.
This is good because getting an old version of Java to work with the KVM is often painful/nigh-impossible.

Sounds like you have two issues going on.

1) CIMC inaccessible.

Probably need to [Reset CIMC] or power drain the server to recover access to CIMC.

2) kvm.jnlp sometimes would need to be edited or opened with a specific Java version.

This could probably be bypassed by upgrading firmware to get rid of the Java KVM and use the updated HTML5 KVM.
But that depends on exactly what hardware (PIDs) you have to know if the HTML5 KVM is supported.
I haven't done those Java tweaks in a while so may have to dig up some old notes.

Thanks, we got it working by doing a reboot of the CIMC.
