Upgrading RAM in UCS B200 M3

Not applicable

Hi guys,

Just a simple of question, i'm planning to upgrade my 4x blade servers currently installed with 128GB and plan to upgrade more RAMs for better performance. May i know what is the correct procedure to remove the blade without affecting any, since the blade has configuration save on its profile.

Appreciate your comments,

Maybe this helps, although it doesn't mention any service profile. Just don't touch the service profile and therefore be assured that the allocated mac, UUID, pwwn,.... stay the same.

Is the OS installed on the local disk ? if yes, check that it will not get wiped out.

Hi walter,

Appreciate your reply, the OS installed in local disk and this are my current profile setup.

Hi Johnson,

To upgrade the RAM all you have to do is power off the blade from UCS Manager or the KVM, pull the blade, put the RAM in the correct slots, and then once the blade is re-inserted you power it back on.

The information to do this is located here for your specific Blade (B200 M3):

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/unified_computing/ucs/hw/blade-servers/B200M3.html

On there you'll find :
* how to remove & insert blades into the chassis;
* How to remove the top cover of the blade;
* The memory population rules that dictate which memory banks should be used, allowed memory configurations etc..

However, I would confirm that your Scrub Policy is not set, because you do not want to wipe your data on the local disks.

If this was helpful please mark the answer as correct to help other users looking for the same solution.
