Vlans on N5ks that are L2 only on the FIs

Hi, we create various layer-2 only vlans on the FIs in order to achieve high network IO between servers and to avoid L3 lookups and northbound traffic to the core/aggregation switches. An example of this can be vmotion vnic on the esxi blades which is assigned a unique vlan i.d. Another one can be FT-logging which will also have a unique vnic and vlan id.

Do we also need to create these L2 only vlans on the upstream switches such as the N5Ks? If Yes, why??

thnx

You don't have to create the vlans in the n5k but if you don't do it you must make sure that all vmotion and ft traffic from all the servers will use fi-a or fi-a to prevent cross fi traffic which will not work as the vlans are not found upstream.
