Hello, I have some questions regarding the do's and don'ts of SPANNING. If you have for example several switches with one port, say port 48 SPANNED to another switch that collapses all the traffic to be monitored by an IDS or network analyzer. ...
Hello, I'm currently looking into IDS placement and such. I had a thought about for a bit and wondered, what is the true difference between a Monitor Session off of a 3560 switch vs a true network TAP? Is there any way to get Layer 1 and 2 err...
Has anyone attempted to monitor voltage through a 1841 router? The IOS versionc1841-advsecurityk9-mz.124-11.T.bin. Through the MIB browser on cisco site it says it is supported but wondering if the equipment supports this function? I have the OID whi...
Is there any related security risk to combining passive internal and external traffic to be analyzed? We have multiple SPAN sessions that psychically collapse to a single switch. We then analyze that data from that point. There is no IP on any of the...
What I was worried about is the that the IDS will not see everything off of a SPAN port from a switch because it would drop certain framing problems or packets that are crafted prior to sending it to the SPAN port.
A little more info. My idea was to take SPAN's from our 6500's and other networks and collapse them all to a couple of 3560's. Then the IDS would be tapped off of the 3560's...Matthew
Thank you for the information, we have been looking everywhere for this.. Do you have a sample configuration for traps or RMON to activate if the fan goes out?Do you have link to check on what other equipment supports voltage and temp?
