i think i figured it out. The tool is solarwinds - but i wanted to point to the cisco device and how to straighten myself out with it.
I have told the monitoring software to ignore those interfaces, but there is automation built into that softwar...
Next, I configured RSTP on the vlans in use here, and re-tagged them to the interface, shut/no shut the uplinks to the 3850, and no errors!!!! Thanke Georg for the tip toward RSTP.
