My boss needs to know how to retrieve call logs that will show duration, the number called, and the date. Does anyone know if the CISCO IP Phone Model SPA508G has this capability?

Thank you!

call logs that will show duration, the number called, and the date.

Such log is known as CDR (Call Detail Record). But it's not collected by end phone - it's collected by call controller/PBX (the end phone is registered to) instead. Ask yours CC/PBX administrator for it.

Does anyone know if the CISCO IP Phone Model SPA508G has this capability?

No. But as a workaround, you can turn on generic syslog&debug on SPA508G, catch the messages by external syslog daemon, then parse recorded messages. All details you mentioned can be derived from it - and even more.

Thank you both for responding! As I am not tech savvy and the phones were installed before I started can you please explain in layman's terms how to retrieve the CDR?

Is this a feature on the phone? How would I contact the call controller/PBX administrator?

Thank you!

I can be considered skilled IT expert, but I'm not prophet. So I'm unable to guess configuration details of your phone network.

As mentioned already, CDR is collected by Call Controller (or PBX) your phone is connected to - not by the phone itself. So sorry, I have no chance to guess what CC/PBX you are using - so I can't advise how to fetch CDR from it.

Call Controller (or PBX) Administrator is a person who configure and maintain Call Controller (or PBX) for you. You know already I don't know what CC/PBX you are using. Not surprisingly I don't know who maintains it for you. And definitely, I how to contact such person.

At the first, identify the CC/PBX your phone is connected to. It such CC/PBX is owned by your company, ask your boss who's responsible for it and how to contact such person. If your phone is connected to third-party CC/PBX, identify the company you have contract with and request CDR from them.

If we had a company set up our phone system would they be the CC?

It depends ...

You used term "phone system". Is a Call Controller part of phone system in question or ?
