Cisco ATA191

Hi guys,

Can a Cisco ATA191 transmit DTMF at RFC2833. Need to find out before I recommend this a solution for a client.

Client has automated access company currently operating on an analogue phone line with dial up modem to talk to the door systems. If they upgrade their system to fibre and VoIP this will cease to work with the remote entry systems.  I think the 191 will allow them to continue to remotely communicate without having to upgrade all the entry systems. 

My second question is, would the 192 be a better option as it has the router built in too.

The Cisco ATA191 supports the RFC2833 standard for transmitting DTMF tones. RFC2833 is a commonly used method for sending DTMF signals in VoIP networks. Therefore, the ATA191 is a suitable option if your client requires RFC2833 DTMF transmission.

Now, regarding the Cisco ATA192, it is designed for similar purposes but with additional features. The Cisco ATA192 comes with an integrated router, which can be advantageous in certain scenarios. If your client needs a device that not only converts analog signals to VoIP but also includes routing capabilities, then the ATA192 could be a better fit. This is especially useful if there is a need for a basic router functionality at the endpoint.

Cisco ATA191:

• Supports RFC2833 for DTMF transmission.
• Typically used for analog-to-VoIP conversion.

Cisco ATA192:

• Supports RFC2833 for DTMF transmission.
• Includes an integrated router for basic routing functionality.

If the primary requirement is to convert analog signals to VoIP and maintain compatibility with the existing door systems, the Cisco ATA191 should suffice. However, if there's a need for routing capabilities at the endpoint, the Cisco ATA192 might be a more comprehensive solution.
