Cisco SPA 112 Keep alive

Thomas_Berg

Hi
Trying to help a customer who has a Cisco SPA112. (Has the latest software)
The device was set up in our office and tested ok (with UDP protocol), but it does not work at our customer's office. The firewall keeps terminating the connection after 2 minutes.

How can we set up the device to keep it alive in the firewall?

Hope you can give a specific suggestion on which settings need to be changed.

Set NAT Keep Alive Enable to yes.

Hi

I tried to change NAT Keep Alive Enable to Yes, but it didn't help me.

Do you have any other ideas?

It didn't helped because phone sends no keep-alives or because NAT is terminating session despite of it ?

Hi
The fax machine are receiving the fax call, but when the fax machine accpet the fax it breaks the connection.

I'm unsure I understand the description.

Call is successfully picked up by fax machine, but is cancelled later, during the fax protocol handshake ?

Why you thing it have something to do with NAT ? It sounds to me as almost impossible cause for the symptoms you described.

What codec you are using during the SIP call in question ?

What's the fax protocol and maximum line speed the called fax willing to accept ?

Hi

The fax machine is getting the call, but is cancelled before the fax machine accept connection to receive the fax

I don't think it's the NAT, since it work fine at our office, but not at our customers office.

Our customers firewall provider has been changing some settings, so now 4 out of 7 are working.

We are using G711a, since we are in Norway.

I don't have the information about the max speed line.

Originally you claimed firewall issue and asked for keep-alive settings.

But now it seems the call is not aborted prematurely, it looks like normal call clearing triggered by intentional off-hook of one of call peers.

Classic analog line is designed to transfer data up to 9600Bd. Higher speeds may or may not work. SIP G.711 channel follows analog line specification - e.g. speeds above 9600Bd may or may not work, while the later is not considered bug.

Hypothesis:

Faxes negotiate so high communication speed which doesn't pass. FAX connection is considered broken and (intentional) hangup follows because of it.

Solution attempt:

On SPA112: Echo Canceller: no, Silence suppression: no, Preferred Codec: G711, Use pref. codec only: yes, RTP Packet Size: 0.010 (if VoIP provider can take it), Network Jitter Level: very high

On fax: Set your fax machine to send/receive at 9600 baud or lower.

Hi and thanks for your time.

I have tried all those settings you suggested, but it still doesn't work.

I activated the log module on debug and got this:

Can you help me translate this debug?

//Thomas

It's log of SPA112 kernel. It have no value for us. You need to turn on and catch log&debug of Voice Application:

Debug and syslog Messages from SPA1x2 and SPA232D ATA

If possible, capture SIP and RTP packet send/received by SPA112 as well.
