I connected a customers CP7940 to UC540 and did it not register.  I reset to factory Default and still no registrattion.  Tech Support had me check the firmward and I was told that it is MGCP and needs to be converted to SCCP.  I was sent this link and told to follow the instructions but I can not make it work.

Any Ideas?

Here is the Link:

Hi Dave,

Absolute champion and thank you heaps for taking the time out to list this out, another HOW-TO to add to my list, the explanation was simple to follow and its good to have something like this in ones arsenal of how-to's

Again thanks for taking the time to type it out...

Cheers,

David.

Well I figured it out here goes:

MGCP Firware 7 or higher and we needed to upgrade to SCCP
Caution:  higher version does not work!

1. Downloaded the zip file from CISCO the 7940 version 7 SCCP
2. Down and run TFTP32 Client on a PC on a LAN (I used 192.168.5.5)
3. Reset Phone to factory Default
A. Reset the power
B. Press # until display shows that keys were prseed (about 10 Seconds)
C. press 123456789*0#
D. Press 1 to default
4. Unlock
  A. Press Settings
  B. Scroll to unlock
  c. password is cisco
5. Scroll to network configuration
6. Scroll to DHCP Enabled and press no and then save
7. Scroll to TFTP server and change to TFTP address (192.169.5.5)
8. In the PC TFTP server put in the TFTP selected directory
put the files in the ZIP folder from the SCCP 7940 Version 7
   P00307000200.bin
   P00307000200.loads
   P00307000200.sb2
   P00307000200.sbn
9. create the text file MGCDefault.cnf
   in first line put:
   image_version: P00307000200
10. reset Power to phone
11. after new software is loaded verify the firmware
12. Change DHCP back to auto
  A. select setting and scroll to network configuration
  B. Scroll to DHCP enable
  C. unlock by pressing **#
  D. press yes and then save
13. Phone should connect to default UC5xx system and now you can use CCA to configure the phone
