We use the INTERCOM and WATCH button assignments on all our office phones.
We have the INTERCOM button configured on every phone so we can make inter-office intercom calls and the recipient can answer without having to lift the handset. We find it very efficient and convenient.
Because the INTERCOM button does not show any line status we have had to add a second button for each desired extension and assign the WATCH function to that button.
Now to INTERCOM and/or WATCH each extension requires TWO diffrent buttons. This would be much more effective if combined into one button.
Since INTERCOM isnt utilized to provide any status indications when not in use in an intercom call, it would be nice if the INTERCOM button could function as a WATCH button as well.
I doubt there is a way to do this in CLI, but it would be a nice feature.
Intercom | Push-to-talk, single-button intercom line between two IP phones. Mute is deactivated, so both parties hear each other when the call is connected. Multiple intercoms can be configured on one phone. Button 1 cannot be configured as an intercom. |
Watch | Watch all lines on the phone with the specified extension. The line status indicator on the Watch button lights Red when any line on the watched phone is in use, out-of-service, or in Do Not Disturb mode. The phone user can press the Watch button to speed-dial the watched extension. Other calls cannot be made or received using a line button that is in watch mode. Incoming calls on a line button that is in watch mode do not ring and do not display caller ID or call-waiting caller ID. |
