Hello,
I am looking for an SPA 3102 expert out there. There's very few and far in between so any help will be appreciated.
I am a physician and I work with Doctors Without Borders travelling around the globe to very remote areas - so I've developed a rather complex VoIP network to consult with fellow professionals by routing calls thru gizmo's which I set up in hospitals and homes. I’ve learned that many remote areas will have workable wireless access but bad phones – so I programmed a good Android phone with multiple SIP accounts and that allows me to get in touch with colleagues and consult without anyone having to spend lots on long distance fees. I use PAP2's and SIPURA 2102's and sometimes 3102's when I need to access local POTS lines in different countries.
I encountered a strange problem a few days ago when one of the 3102's located in Rochester Minnesota started buzzing/rasping loudly when I dialed thru the PSTN line. I'm a surgeon - not a VoIP engineer - so most of the setting on the admin screen are ancient Sanskrit to me. I wish all these Cisco ATA's had some sort of textbook course I could read up on so when something like this happens we would all know how to fix...
This is what happens: This particular 3102 is hard wired to a Netgear WGR614 V.10 Wireless Router. We’ve all become fairly good at setting up the ATA’s and tweaking them to work just right with different routers and networks. This 3102 has a fixed IP and is DMZ'd. It works fine: Calls come in and go out via the VoIP line. The PSTN line always worked great. Both lines register ok. Until a few days ago I would VoIP in, get the local dial tone and place the call on the local POTS perfectly. Then suddenly I VoIP’ed in, got the local dial tone, dialed the number...but...instead of hearing a ringing tone from the receiving side - I got a very loud buzzing/rasping noise. It seems as if when the PSTN "returns" the ringing signal, something happens in the 3102 that creates this buzzing. As of a day ago the buzzing has increased and now overlaps the dial tone even before I dial the local POTS number.
Does anyone have an idea what's going on. Nothing in the docs by Cisco.
Best to all

Hi Dr. Garth,
I've not previously experienced the described issue.
I searched and found a similar issue, but there was no follow-up:
