How can I force the modem speed on a NM-8AM-V2 module to 19200. What would be the best way to do this, modemcap or AT commands?
Thanks

It depends on whether you are refering to modulation speed or dte/dce speed.
In most cases the dte speed is irrelevent because you are connected the modem via IP. Try setting your line speed to 19200, but I'm not sure it makes any difference:
>conf t
>line 1/0
>speed 19200
The modulation speed can be changed using the +MS= command. The closest to 19200 is +MS=v32b which will give a maximum speed of 14400 bps

the +MS=v32b command did not change my connection rate. Any suggestions?

You use either a modemcap or AT command. The difference is that the modemcap only get executed each time you connect to the modem. With AT commands you can control the modem pre/during/post call.

debug output below:
Modem 1/2 ACF: Event: CONNECT V34/LAPM/NONE/28800:TX/26400:RX
With the above command initiated. I need to connect at 19200 or lower.
Any help would much be appreciated.
Thanks.

I enter this AT command below:
at+MS?
+MS: V92,1,300,48000,300,56000
And this is what I get even after I enter the at+MS=v32b command. Just some further information.

Never mind all, I appreciate the help. Problem solved by using the modemcap command and sending the appropriate AT commands.
Thanks.

A couple of thoughts:
1. Do you have a modemcap that does at&f or atz? This will factory default the modem.
2. Does your application do at&f or atz? This will factory default the modem.
3. What version of firmware and IOS are you using.
My IOS: 12.4(3c)
My Modem F/W Version : ACF3_V1.824L-V90_4M_RAM
Here is what happens if I type +MS commands into a modem on my 2820 with a NM-16AM-V92
at
OK
at+ms?
+MS: V92,1,300,48000,300,56000
OK
at+ms=v32b
OK
at+ms?
+MS: V32B,1,300,14400,300,14400
OK
