AnyConnect on any Android mobile?

andyhibbert

Is there any Android mobile phone out there that has the Cisco AnyConnect vpn client built in ?

The CIUS is so far outside my price range I dont even consider it.

I hear that the adverts for the Samsung Galaxy SII and the HTC Sensation make reference to it being available on these devices but the actual shipping devices don't have it.

Thanks

Andy

At the moment, no.

AFAIK Cisco has not made any official statement regarding support for Android, but Samsung has announced that it is working with Cisco to get Anyconnect to run on some of its Galaxy and Tab models, I believe it will be available from the Android marketplace when ready. For an ETA, I would suggest to ask Samsung, or get in touch with your Cisco sales rep.

Personally I have not heard anything about HTC.

I thought as much. Its looking like we will have to go the iPhone route.

I can't even find an SSL vpn client. I don't mind rooting my own phone to install OpenVPN but its not a option for an IT department. Ah well...

Well I forgot to mention that on Android we do support the built-in L2TP/IPsec client. Personally I can't help you with how to configure the client side though.

Thanks for that.

I tried installing the client on an ACER Liquid running Android 2.2. I was fully expecting it not to run but it doesn't even install.

Must be tied to Android 2.3 and possibly checks for Samsung hardware.

I just installed on my Galaxy ab 10.1 and everytime I launch AnyConnect I get an error that says:

Could not obtain the necessary permissions to run this application. This device does not support AnyConnect.

Your posting claims it supports the 10.1 running Android 3.0+ (I am running 3.1)

Steven,

I see that the user guide and release notes were updated with this :

"Note We are working with Samsung to address issues regarding installation of AnyConnect on the Galaxy Tab 10.1."

I don't have any details, nor an ETA, sorry.

Herbert

HI

I've got Galaxy S GT-I9000 with 2.2, i've installed it because it had contradictory information in the site(market.android.com) it said in the about application android version required 2.1 and plus, but in description it said 2.3 or plus. So since the information was contradictory i tried to install it and it installed but when i try to run it i get "could not obtain the mecesary permissions to run this application. This device does not support AnyConnect".

Samsung hasnt released in Portugal the version 2.3. Will i have to wait until it is released?

Just for information:. I have a Samsung Galaxy 2 S. The AnyConnect VPN client downloads and installs on the phone OK.

Connects without any problems to an ASA 5505 running version 8.4(1)
