Anyconnect 'web authentication required'...'service provider...is restricting access to the Internet'...3.x , 4.x

good day all

i have seen previous Support Community entries about this exact same topic....though not really any 'answers'

so, i'm opening new dialogue in case anybody DID actually answer.

we have the situation where on a Win 7 x64 or x86 Pro system...after several successful uses of Anyconnect v3.x from various places, a user will then get the 'web authentication required' indication on bottom of Anyconnect window ...and follow-up window of "the service provider in your current location is restricting access to the Internet. you need to log on with the service provider before you can establish a VPN sesson. you can try this by visiting any website with your browser. "

problem is, this is the users home wifi...or some other location that is NOT asking for add'l authentication

if i remote control the PC (via teamviewer) and UNinstall the Anyconnect and reinstall it (no reboot) then the Anyconnect session comes up just fine.

happened on older Win 7 laptop, so we gave user a new laptop in January 2017...and has happened since then like 5 diff times.

we have windows updates pushed automatically....Critical/Important and use Sophos Cloud endpoint on this (and 400+ other) PC.

any feedback would be HUGE ...thanks :-)

Hi Edwick,

It typically seems to be an issue of false Captive Portal detection.

Can you please share the DART file if possible from one of the affected client?

Regards,

Aditya
