AS5300 with TACACS+ help

Hello,

we are using an AS5300 with TACACS+ for RAS. We assign users addresses with a defined pool and works fine. The problem is that we want to define certain local users so that they get a fixed IP (out of the pool defined). I select the "Give a specific IP" in the ACS server and it certainly gives the proper IP, but doesn't give the mask nor the default gateway. How can we solve it?

Thank you very much.

As far as I know the standards doesn't give subnetmask to the client. If it is working don't wory so much.

To verify the previous reply, what you are seeing is indeed standard behavior. PPP actually does not have a mechanism for delivering a subnet mask at all; that's a fact. So your pc will always see its subnet mask as the classful mask. However, from the viewpoint of the access server, all dialin pc's have a subnet mask of 255.255.255.255; you can verify this with a "show ip route," so it won't cause any routing problems. And the gateway will indeed be set to reflect the pc's own ip address; this is the normal default mechanism, it ends up using inverse arp to find the proper route and that won't give you trouble. This is how ISP's all over the country are set up, so you're good to go.

Hopefully that will answer your questions. Good luck!

Thank you very much. Your answer has been very helpful. It really works.
