Authentication problems PPPoA

Hi,

We are trying to connect a Cisco 1700 router using PPPoA. During the LCP Authenticatio phase, I am getting the error

Vi2 PPP: Authorization Not Required

and

Vi2 LCP: failed to negotiate with peer

Any ideas\Help ?

Naman,

Many things can happen.

1- Take a look to this link. It will help you to check exately what is wrong.

2- you may want to make sure that the ppp authentication method and the password are correct ( as known by the peer)

3- in the case you're using pap, make sure that username and password are provided in the same command line (unlike chap).

If you're using CHAP and you have the line "ppp authen chap callin", try to remove it. I've seen this line in most of the Cisco PPPoA configuration samples with CHAP but it doens't work for my ADSL connection and it gives very similar debug messages. After I remove this line, everything works fine.

Actually i had it the other way. In the problem config, i had "ppp authen chap" but i changed it to "ppp authen chap callin" and it fixed the problem.
