My company laptop will only access the internet when connected via Cisco AnyConnect VPN. I would like to be able to access the web without having to go through this VPN as it is highly restricting - yes, I am aware that it serves a purpose in filtering the internet content I access, but it is highly restrictive. I've searched online and come across what is described as a "kill-switch", which is a setting that does exactly this ,cuts off internet access when not connected via a VPN, perhaps this is what the Cisco AnyConnect is doing?

We typically setup such a configuration using AnyConnect's always-on feature combined with a full tunnel rule requiring all traffic to use the VPN. From there it is a matter of not allowing the VPN client addresses Internet access at the company firewall. Since it's their laptop (and their network they are protecting) it would be highly inappropriate to try to work around the restriction.
