Dear Sir;
Before nearly four years we have purchased 4 Cisco ASA 5500 Device for our
organization.
Out of these four device currently two are active in field and other two we
kept as a spare.
Now, in one active device we are facing very rare and strange issue.
The device automatically soft reboot once in nearly 60 days and we do not
have any pre or post symptoms of this incident only server logs
providing us this information.
The device itself located in very controlled environment in a data center
where physical tampering or temperature waviness is not possible.
We also took help of one Cisco Expert from data center but still issue is
not solved.
Before two month, using remote syslog service we also started log
redirection to a server so that when such incident occurs we have something
to analyze but it is worthless
log has nothing to tell us.
My questions are
1. "It is a hardware fault or software issue?"
2. "Is it possible with Cisco 5500 that automatically it reboots due to
some internal hardware/software issue, if yes how we can trap or monitor
it?"
3. "Can someone set schedule task in device so that device soft reboot it
self after specific days or period?"
4. "Who can help us in this regards?"
thanks and waiting for your favorable reply as soon as possible

Hi Devang,
My questions are
1. "It is a hardware fault or software issue?"
A It could be either or both. First thing u need to check is the amount or memory its got etc. and also the IOS that it has. It might have a very old IOS which might have bugs etc.please upgrade your IOS
2. "Is it possible with Cisco 5500 that automatically it reboots due to
some internal hardware/software issue, if yes how we can trap or monitor
it?"
A yes, as I mentioned it could be both. you need to check the RAM it has . Also please check the CPU on it. Is it spiking . IF the CPU has reached 100 constantly the device might crash and reboot itself.
3. "Can someone set schedule task in device so that device soft reboot it
self after specific days or period?"
A you can if you want to using "reload in". Need to check the command again. You can schedule when you want to reload the box.
4. "Who can help us in this regards?"
A. If you are asking help offline we can help here but if you want cisco to help then you need raise TAC case. You need to speak to you vendor about it if u bought the devices from a 3rd party reseller. however you must have maintenance and support as well for thsoe devices
Hope this helps

Dear Kishore;
Many thanks for this appropriate answer, Can you tell me How much risk involve if we go for IOS upgradation option?
See we do not have any stand by device.
IOS upgradation is possible with remote place or we need to do it under physical observation?
thanks a lot again

Hi devang,
I would personally see if I can do it directy from the box. There are tons of material online here as how to upgrade an IOS on the ASA. or you can speak to your vendor and they should assist you with this
