Connect to VPN but still access internet thru own connection

I connect to a VPN to access a mail server, and other specific servers using the Cisco VPN Client.

I would like to remain connected to the VPN while logged-in to my workstation, but I do not want to route my general internet activity through the VPN connection.

Can I do something about this?

you can use the split-tunneling feature of VPN to control the access through the tunnel... if you do not want internet access, when connected on VPN, u can disable split tunneling, so that all traffic goes through IPSEC VPN.. u need to configure this on the VPN terminating device....
