one way to verify is to do "sh ver" on the router, get the image file name, and then check it out from cisco website.
e.g. the output of "sh ver"
System image file is "flash:c820-k9osy6-mz.122-8.yj.bin"
another way that i prefer is to log onto the router, type in the crypto commands with a question mark.
e.g.
router(config)#crypto ?
if it returns with the parameters that means the router does support vpn; otherwise it will returns "% Unrecognized command". you may apply the same logic to verify whether the router supports cbac or not by "ip inspect ?".

As far as I know there is no specific license which run on the router. The license is authorization from Cisco to run the advance security IOS. The router will just display the IOS version.
I hope this helps.
