Hi,
I have requirement to deploy IPSec tunnel on 1941 router. I am confused to select between two h/w versions CISCO1941-SEC/K9 and CISCO1941/K9.

Can someone -

1) Tell me what is difference between two
2) Recommendation to choose which one

Here is gist of my requirement -
1) IPSec tunnel
2) GRE Tunnel
3) BGP
4) In some rare case EIRGP
5) HSRP and VRRP

You would need the model with SEC (security) license for IPsec.

Per Cisco (reference), "The SEC-K9 license enables standard encryption (VPN payload and secure voice) on the ISR G2 platforms".

The second 1941 model does not have the SEC license and is thus unable to support IPsec VPNs. It is a software license - the hardware is otherwise identical between the two models.

Dear Rajesh,

CISCO1941-SEC/K9 comes with a security license whereas CISCO/K9 does not have security license in it. You have to purchase security license separately in this case.

Second, because of the security license, the price of CISCO1941-SEC/K9 is on higher side.

With Regards

Chinmoy.
