DMVPN (ip nhrp map spoke_tunnel_ip or spoke_public_ip)

Hi,

I'm in the process of configuring DMVPN and need some clarification on the correct syntax for the ip nhrp map command. Specifically, I'm unsure about the order of IP addresses in the command. Could someone explain the difference between these two commands and which is correct?

  1. ip nhrp map spoke_tunnel_IP spoke_public_ip
  2. ip nhrp map spoke_public_ip spoke_tunnel_IP

In my lab, both commands seem to work, but I want to understand the implications of each. Thanks!

That command creates a static nhrp mapping between tunnel address to underlay/nbma address. The most common use for this command is to inform spoke routers of how to establish connectivity to the nhs by creating a static map of the addreesses of the hub. Only the first command should work - since you say that both commands are working, what does your config look like?

EDIT: It should also likely be the hub addresses

  1. ip nhrp map spoke_tunnel_IP spoke_public_ip

This is correct' other one is not correct.

We use this command if we want to use static MAP (tunnel to spoke) instead of using nhrp.

Note:- It not common to use this type of config.
