IPSEC Initialization fails using wireless adapter

I have successfully used the Cisco VPN Client V 4.0.2 (D) via my laptop's wired nic through a LinkSys WRT54G for over a year. I recently purchased an Intel PRO/Wireless 2200GB mini-PCI card for the same laptop. I can access the internet, but when I try to start the VPN client, it hangs on "Initializing the IPSec link..." and finally gives me an error window that reads: "The necessary VPN sub-system is not available. You can not connect to the remote VPN server."

I have not had any luck getting help from LinkSys, HP/Compaq (my laptop and wireless adapter vendor), or my company's network support (they say they can't support every combination of personal router and wireless adapter).

So my questions are these: Should this work? Are there additional router settings for wireless VPN support that aren't needed for wired support? Should I punt and get a different wireless adapter...or a different wireless router?

TIA

Some wireless software can cause this problem. Uninstall the VPN client and then uninstall the wireless software. Now install the vpn client and then install the wireless client.

Also some anti-virus software can cause this problem. Uninstall both and then install vpn client and then install the anti-virus software.
