are there any differences security wise between a user who ssl vpns to a firewall then accesses a website vs. https to a website?

SSLVPN implmentation offer a bit more in terms of authentication client/user (HTTPS by default only authenticates the server).

Plus all the proprietary features like CSD and DAP, which add additional layer of security features.
