Is there a command to see my vpn key in clear text as opposed to the * on an ASA when I do show run

Yes. The cli command:
more system:running-config
...will include pre-shared keys as plain text.
You might want to use output qualifiers (e.g., " | i pre-shared" or " | b tunnel-group" after the above command) to narrow down the output if all you want is the key value.
One can also perform a backup from ASDM and get the information as well.
