How do I set up Telnet on a switch? I thought that I had set it up but for some reason it is not working. Can you give me step by step instructions to set remote access to the switch?

Thanks for letting us know that no shut for vlan 1 did solve the problem. I am glad that you now have this working.

Also you mentioned the trunk interface. this confused me as well. When I set up the switch and connected the interface which i believe is 49, it just started working via the fiber. I did not set up the trunk but all the AP's and devices are working just fine. Should I go in and set the trunk up anyway?

My guess is that automatic negotiation of trunking took place. You could verify that from the output of the command show interface trunk. If an interface shows up there as a trunk, and you (or someone else) did not manually configure it, then it must have been negotiated.
Whether to go in and manually configure trunking is a question that does not have a clear right answer. Some people would say that if it is working now then do not go making changes (why try to fix if it is not broken) and I recognize the validity of that. I like to have things explicit in the config rather than depending on negotiation, so I would be inclined to configure the interface as a trunk. Perhaps one way to get an answer is to find out what is done on the other similar switches in the network. If the normal approach is to let interfaces negotiate trunking then you should let it go as it is. If the normal approach is to configure trunking then you probably should configure the interface for trunking.

Hello,
in addition to Richard's comments, is your PC in Vlan 1 ? Can you ping the remote switch from the switch your desktop is connected to ?

As long as interface vlan 1 is shutdown the switch is not going to be pingable.
There are some things in the config that puzzle me. There are multiple vlans configured (1, 50, 70, 90) and the original poster says that the APs and desktops work fine. But I do not find any interfaces configured as trunk ports.
To help us understand better what is going on would you post the output of these commands on the switch
show cdp neighbor
show vlan
show interface trunk
show interface status
