Tunneling VRF Traffic Question?

I have a network of 6500 series switches with SUP720s for my backbone and I want to separate the traffic for some of the users.  The links between the core devices are routed with ip addresses on each side not trunked using vlans for routing.  I can't bring down the routed links or add additional links between the 6500s, but I need to set up vrf on the core.

I was thinking I could set up gre tunnel with ip vrf forwarding in the setup and route across the existing links.  Will the links have to be put into the vrf or can I tunnel across them?  Hope this makes sense.  Any one had to do this? Any other suggestions?

yes it is supported but you have to make sure that you have appropriate OS code.

Thanks that definitely helps.  I hate to ask another question but do the 6500s with SUP720s support nhrp?
