Upgrading VPN client

I have been trying to upgrade a few VPN clients from the 4.0.1 release to the latest which I think is 4.8 or 4.7. What is the best way to upgrade these uninstall and then reinstall the new one. I tried this on a couple of laptops and one it can't connect to our VPN Cisco concentraor even though the settings are correct.

Cisco recommends that you uninstall the Cisco VPN Client by using the InstallShield uninstall utility packaged with the client (available by going to Start > Programs > Cisco Systems VPN Client > Uninstall VPN Client). You can also use the or the add/remove utility available by going to Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs. If these uninstall applications fail, you can uninstall the application manually by deleting files and modifying the Microsoft Windows registry.
