Hi,

We are planning to have AIM/EPII cards on our 2600 series router. This is done particularly for VPN configurations. How does this card helps in the VPN ( complex math algoritms - encry and decry ) . Is it not possible to have VPN by having enterprise IOS version on the router withouot this cards. What I beleive is that Ent version of of IOS supports VPN configuration commands.

Please share the experience.

Thanks in advance.

Be aware that according to this datasheet the AIM-VPN/EPII cards are only supported on the 2691 router, see table 8 -

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/routers/ps259/product_data_sheet0900aecd800fa5be.html

If you are using another type of 2600 then you may want to look at the AIM-VPN-EPI card.

You can run VPN's on the 2600 without an AIM card but that would then have to be handled by the routers main CPU so it would degrade performance. What the AIM card does is to offload all the VPN processing such as encryption/decryption which is processor intensive to the AIM module and frees up the main processor for other router tasks.
