VPN and Netware client not responding

Hello, somewhat new to networking and hoping someone can help out. I have a Windows 2000 Pro which is running VPN client version 3.6.3. I am trying to login to a Netware server using the Novell client 4.83 sp 1. I can get the connection to the server and am able to ping it successfully after creating the tunnel but the novell client is unable to see the tree. Any ideas?

Thanks

Dan

Hi,

You can try lowering down the MTU on the your PC by running setMTU utility comes with the vpn client in case you are using broadband internet connection.

Thanks,

If your using SLP, then you may need to add that information statically into the client, unless your receiving your VPN ip address from DHCP that has the information configured with it. for example. option 78 and 79 on a windows 2000 dhcp server needs to be created for users to receive the scope list and da agent ip address.

hope this helps

Just wanted to let you know that the problem was resolved. The novell client was unable to translate the server name on this home machine. Once I plugged in the ip address instead of the name it found the tree. I guess this would explain why I could ping the server but not access it thru the novell client.

Thanks for all the info!

Dan

Novell supports a news server. Two groups deal with the client. Both have details about the problem you described. The nttp server is support-forums.novell.com. You will find information about configuring the clients and what problems you will experience.

Using an IP address to login into the server will work but you may have problems browsing the novell tree. The latest Cisco client and latest Novell client have made advancements to improve Novell connectivity over VPN.

SLP will need to be setup on the Novell servers and the IP addresses of the SLPDA will need to be entered in the clients.
