I have a question for everyone. I am looking at setting up a satelite internet service on a mobile system that I have and would like to be able to put in an ASA5505 for VPN access. I have been told that this would be difficult due to the latency of the satelite signal. Does anyone have any thought or input on this? Would this be a good solution or should I go another route?
Thanks --Jon

Jon,
The ASA or VPN server does not care which type of Internet connection you use.
As long as there's IP connectivity to the ASA (and VPN traffic allowed), the VPN will work.
Now... what you mentioned is true.
If there's instability on that link it might cause you a lot of problems with the VPN traffic.
You can try measuring the delay on the link and see if the applications across the tunnel will support it or better go another route as you mentioned.
Federico.

Thanks Frederico,
Once again you gave me a good answer. The one good thing about this is that I will be using it for remote acess only to download reports. I will not be using any applications across it. All of the applications are run in the local network. I have some time to work on this as a project, so hopefully I can pull out some test figures. For the mobile access I need, this seems to be the best bet to go with, hopefully it will work as I want it to.
