Hello,

I have a new WLC 4404, it is refurbished. I want to configure it via console cable but i am not able to create a console session. I have connected my console cable in console port to the WLC. My cable is fine and also my laptop is also fine to establish the console session because i am able to create console session with other devices. The problem is with this device only.

Can some one let me know the procedure to create console session with WLC ? Is there any specific procedure with this device to create console session. ?

The WLC is refurbished so i guess it is factory reset and i haven't configure it.

What is the error message?
There is no issue with upgrading direct from 5.X to 7.X and this is allowed/supported.

Jim,

When you connect to the 4404 via your console cable with terminal emulation software, what are your settings? They should be as follows:

9600 baud
8 data bits
No flow control
1 stop bit
No parity

If that doesn't work, but you are getting garbled characters when you hit the enter key, then it's likely the baud rate was changed by the last administrator. Something I try is to set it to the next most common speed - 115200. You can also try 57600, 38400, and 19200.

Thanks, i solved it.

Now i have the configuration which i want to import to this WLC.

Can someone let me know the procedure ?

WLC 4400 have a Service Port.  So configure the Service Port to have a /30 IP address.  Connect the Service port to your computer and give a static IP address to be in the same range as the Service Port.

Enable TFTP on your computer.

Go to Command > Download > Config ...

I followed the procedure but it says TFTP not replying.

My service port IP 10.33.1.126/26

My computer IP 10.33.1.124/26

I have configured TFTP on this computer.

Connect this computer with WLC via Ethernet cable and open GUI.

Not able to upgrade ?

The Error message is "TFTP server not replying"

Can someone let me know any suggestion ?

1.  Is Firewall disabled?

2.  Try using TFTPd32.

Yes, the firewall is disabled and i am using TFTPD32

And now that you know how to get a console session, as a next step you should dump this device and replace it against something newer. The 4400 is End of life for a couple of years and doesn't get any more security fixes. You are putting your network at risk if you continue to operate this device.

I am stuck middle of up-gradation of WLC 4404. I am trying to upgrade from 5.2.157.0 to 7.0.250.0

But during the up-gradation, after 81% it shows me error.

I am wondering, can i do this up-gradation or do i need to go any intermediate version before 7.0.250.0 ?
