Bandwidth Control

Does the WSA bandwidth control throttle a users stream to the designated speed, or does it let you stream at full speed and once you reach the total bandwith it blocks? If it's the latter, what does the user experience?

The stream is limited to the speed the administrator sets, ie 386kb/s.

We have tried this on youtube, and it works great - it takes longer time to load the stream for the user

Where to find the place to limit the speed per seconds ?

go to web security manager>access policies>applications , choose "define applications custom settings "  and define speed under  " media" application category " bandwith limit"

Tim,

To confirm what Hallvard is saying, the WSA doesn't down sample the video quality, it only limits the amount of bandwidth consumed to buffer the quality that the user has selected.

For example, if you limit to 40 Kb/sec, that 720p youtube video will eventually load at 720p, but it's gonna take all afternoon to do it =).

  • The streaming media bandwith controls under "applications" will cap *each* individual stream.
  • The "overall bandwidth" limits will prevent the WSA itself from ever consuming more bandwidth than you have specified, limiting *every* connection.

The latter can be useful if say you have a 40 Mb pipe and you never want the WSA to consume more then 30 Mb of it, leaving 10 Mb always open for other applications or servers.

Hello, please help me

Overall Bandwidth Limits is the summared for all users , or it is for each user

if i write 2 mbps in Overall Bandwidth Limits, each user will have 2 mbps or this is summared speed for all users traffic?

and is it applyed only to traffic that wsa could limit bandwidth or for all traffic (download , ect ) ?
