Introduction
User unable to manage the WiSM via the management interface of the controller
Core Issue
These are the observations found for this problem.
- When you ping the management interface of the WiSM from the Supervisor 720 using the source IP of a VLAN that already exists on the WiSM, it fails.
- When you ping a non-management interface of the WiSM from the Supervisor 720 using the source IP of a VLAN that exists or does not exist on the WiSM, it works.
- HTTP/HTTPS to the management interface works only if it comes from a VLAN that the WiSM is not aware of.
- HTTP/HTTPS to a non-management interface works from any VLAN.
WiSM has a built-in security feature which does not allow users on the VLAN that the WiSM is aware of to be able to manage it from the network.
Note: The dynamic VLAN created in the WiSM is only meant for wireless users.
Resolution
An alternative method is to manage the WiSM via the dynamic interface only (not via the management interface).
