Trying to setup a AP541N

Hi everybody!

I'm trying to setup a AP541N for my company to replace an old router wireless. We have a class C network with UNIX servers and Windows workstations. Now we are conected by WiFi in Windows workstations and cable to all servers. Firstly I change the LAN default IP address and then the problems started.

- I only can "ping" to router from a LAN Windows interface (not wireless interface tha have a static IP). From UNIX, doesn't work!

- When I connect the wireless through AP541N, the station gets no any IP, will thus not have internet access.

I setup only one VAP with default VLAN 1. The IP of router is in the internal network. The switches are L2.

I hope for help.

Thanks in advance!

Gabriel

Thanks Eric

After writing the post, I followed by testing and decided to put back the factory settings. Then, I setup again the LAN IP step by step, first by DHCP, after Manual, and it works!! Now I can "ping" the LAN of router from any host.

There's another problem. I'm trying to set the HTTP Redirect and Redirect URL (to our website) but it does'n work. I keep trying to find the solution.

Thanks in advance

Gabriel

I know this discussion is a couple months old but did you ever find a solution to the http redirect? I am having a similar problem with the redirect. I know I am on the latest firmware. Each time someone joins the wireless it will pop up a browser like it is going to show the url but it then immediately closes on me. Is there any work around to this or a fix that you know of?

What website are you trying to redirect too? Can you get to the website by just entering it into the browser?

It is just a standard webpage that displays some information about the location hosting the wireless. I can get to the webpage once I am connected to the wireless with no issues. The webpage is hosted on a server at a remote site. One thing I was curious of is there any limitations to browser requirements for any reason? I have not tested this in windows yet because I don't have a laptop readily available to do so. I have been using Firefox and Safari on the Mac and also using an iphone to do my testing with.

Hi, this is Julio Ordonez Cisco ID 854901 I had a similar case and in order to find out if the redirection feature was working or not I entered on a command prompt the following commands:

nc www.cisco.com 80

hit enter, then type

GET / HTTP/1.1 hit enter twice.

You should get an http response with the redirection url you set on your access point. Notice that you have to have netcat installed.I don't know why It wasn't working with the browser, so I erased the cookies and history and it worked!

Hi, I have the exact problem on not one, but two AP541 about two years ago. I contacted Cisco technical support and they could not fix the problem. At the time the FW version was 2.0, now they are at 4:0 and I am still having the same problem. Clearing the cookies does not help. How hard can it be to redirect a browser to a web page. I am using these AP to provide both internal and guest access and my clients are complaining how I cannot redirect to a webpage with a disclaimer when everyone else in the in the industry can. Very dissapointed with Cisco on this one.

Hi Hayden, unfortunately I don't work for cisco any more since the management part (a supervisor who's lastname starts with p and ends with oowon) in Costa Rica has no idea about cisco products... anyways, seems to me that the way the AP keeps track of the clients that have been authenticated is using a cookie (just guessing) so don't know why it isn't working in your case.... when I made an HTTP request using nc ( command-line unix utility ) I got a redirection message...I would be glad to help you but I wouldn't get paid, because I have noticed that if you take a look at the URL when you use other software it seems that in the GET message is also included the MAC address of the client among other information.... hopefuly someone will find a fix for this...
