WAP 371 - Poor speed performance

Good Afternoon All

I'm having some issues with a cluster of (4) Wap 371 Ap's, the connect speed is simply intermittent.  One moment I can run a speed test (to the internet) and get 75mb down, wait for that test to run through and restart it again and get less than 200k the next time.  The slowness is relevant in the users everyday experience (this is why I'm troubleshooting them)   There are wired computers on the same network and these are unaffected, they run completely fine without issue ever on the network.

AP Model =  WAP371-A-K9 V01

What I have tried,

1. Test the wired connections, these are fine

2. Alter the Wireless password and prune down to a single device (my laptop)  - same issue

3. Updated to the latest firmware - completed to 1.3.0.7 - same issue

4. Rebooted / watched if there were performance improvements directly afterwards - same issue

There's a variety of settings, if anyone has an idea to try.

Have a look at the screen captures here.  I have myself isolated (everything is unplugged on the network, both wired and wireless).  I have an iphone and my laptop running, the iphone represent the pictures, and my laptop is plugged into the network, and runs 80mb no problem directly after the Iphone demonstrates poor performance.

Hi Sir,

My name is Puneet Sandel and I am from Cisco small business technical support center.

Please try to make the below changes and see if it resolves the issue. If yes do not forget to mark this post as the solution :)

5 GHz Radio Settings

  • Set Wireless Network Mode = 802.11n/ac
  • Limit Max Associated Clients = 55 (active user recommend is up to 50 per radio)
  • Fixed Multicast Rate = 6 Mbps
  • Disable Legacy Rate Sets 6, 9 Mbps options (Supported/Basic) & Enable 24, 54 Basic Rate
  • Set Spectrum Analysis Mode = Disable

2.4GHz Radio Settings

  • Set Wireless Network Mode = 2.4GHz 802.11n
  • Limit Max Associated Clients = 55 (active user recommend is up to 50 per radio)
  • Fixed Multicast Rate = 5.5 Mbps
  • Disabled Legacy Rate Sets 1, 2, 5.5, 6, 9, 11 Mbps options (Supported/Basic) & Enable 12, 24, 54 Basic Rates
  • Set Spectrum Analysis Mode = Disable

Good evening

I tried all the settings as suggested, i couldn't find the   Spectrum Analysis Mode   on the WAP 371 setup.  Although I have changed all the other settings.  The results are the same as prior.  I can take any screen captures and upload as needed.

thanks for the help!

Good Evening

After looking through various settings I went ahead and brought onsite another WAP 371 and attempted to join into the cluster.  In doing so I noticed that the firmware's didn't match.  During my initial setup / configuration on the previous WAP 371's I had upgraded the firmware to 1.3.0.7.  On the new one I had noted the firmware was older at 1.0.1.5.  So I ran just the new one with the older firmware to test; the speeds ran wonderfully.  So I logged into the upgrade firmware one's and reverted them back to the 1.0.1.5 and the problem went away.  They are clustered with the older firmware and running wonderfully.  Is there any logs / information which I can gather to help determine if there's a problem with the 1.3.0.7 firmware?

Thanks and regards  !

Good afternoon

In regards to this previous post, it appears the issue has re-appeared.... Was wondering if a Cisco Engineer would have some pointers on what to look for regarding the AP's? I have recently purchased and installed some 5 Series AP and they have been running much better than these. Is there a fundamental issue with the 3 series?

Thanks!
