WAP121 Channel Assignment and Country Code

Hello,

I have a number of WAP121 access points and have started to experience a problem with MacBook Pro (2016) MacOS Sierra failing to reconnect after inactivity.

Apple Wireless Diagnosis suggests that I have conflicting country codes. I'm in the UK and when running /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/Apple80211.framework/Versions/Current/Resources/airport -s I see:

SSID BSSID RSSI CHANNEL HT CC SECURITY (auth/unicast/group)
VM935911-2G 9c:d4:6d:29:7e:f0 -91 1 Y GB WPA(PSK/AES,TKIP/TKIP) WPA2(PSK/AES,TKIP/TKIP)
SKY98100 c0:3e:0a:21:6d:09 -79 1 Y DE WPA2(PSK/AES/AES)
BTWifi-X 32:1e:78:12:ff:92 -89 6 Y GB WPA(802.1x/AES,TKIP/TKIP) WPA2(802.1x/AES,TKIP/TKIP)
Araucaria angustifolia 18:8c:9d:b8:bf:99 -89 6,-1 Y DE WPA2(PSK/AES/AES)
BTWifi-with-FON 12:1e:78:10:ff:92 -88 6 Y GB NONE
Araucaria angustifolia 18:8c:9d:b8:c8:05 -43 6 Y DE WPA2(PSK/AES/AES)
Araucaria araucana 18:8c:9d:b8:c8:04 -44 6 Y DE WPA2(PSK/AES/AES)
Roberts WIFI 00:1e:78:10:ff:92 -90 6 Y GB WPA2(PSK/AES/AES)
Araucaria araucana 18:8c:9d:b8:bf:98 -70 6,-1 Y DE WPA2(PSK/AES/AES)

All WAP131s have a country code of DE when it should be GB. But, when I option-click WiFi icon the country code for the current connection is GB.

So, I have a few questions:

  1. Can I change the country code on WAP121? If so, how?
  2. Are there other tools (non-Mac) I can use to check the country code of wireless networks? I don't seem to be alone with this issue and I want to establish if the problem is with Apple's latest OS or with the Cisco access point.

This affects three WAP121s and a WAP321.

As ever,

Martin

Hello Martin

The answer to your first question is no. the country code cannot be changed on this WAPs.

Is this issue only happening with MAC devices? Have you test other devices as Android or PCs.

You can try to change some settings on your wireless access point as troubleshooting.

1- Check if you have the latest firmware on the WAPs.

2- Disable Bonjour option.

3- Change the Fragmentation Threshold and RTS Threshold value to 2306 on Radio settings.

Hope this help you with your issue.

Greetings.

Thanks for your answer guigutie . I have 10.0.5.3 and will upgrade this to 10.0.6.5. This only updates SSL, but the previous update does affect 2.4GHz radio.

Meanwhile, I have set the APs to channel 6 and so far this has been reliable except after returning from a different site when I couldn't connect without a reboot.

Can you explain the rationale for points 2 and 3? And, is there any non-Mac software that displays the country code?

Finally, can anyone explain why these access points declare themselves as DE rather than UK?
