We have several 5508 controller with 1142n access points some access points unjointed from the controller and do not rejoin. It is not always the same access point and it does not happen in any order we can find. All access points may stayed joined for a couple days then one may disjoin, we can bounce the Poe port on the switch and the access point will reboot and rejoin. When looking at the switch port it shows power and link connection to the ap but we can not ping the ap. usually the ap led will be black or out.
What steps can we take to figure out where the problem is?

I have down graded 4 WLC in 4 different locations. We will probably not know if it helped until Monday but I will let you know.

Well. So far so good all of the access points have stayed for for at least a day now. Will monitor tomorrow and see if they stay up. If they do I will be very pleased. I will let you know

Hey Scott I pretty sure you were correct none of the AP have dropped for a couple days now and I'm feeling pretty good about the whole thing.
Thanks to everyone for your help.

Has this big been fixed in 7.4.100.1

We have been told that there are some issue still with the 1142's the new TAC code along with the v7.4 MR that the BU is monitoring. The majority of the 1142 crashing everyday has settled down, but some are still reporting some issues. Just keep us posted if you run into any issues because I'm working with the BU on some of these issues.

Has there been any update about when a new release with a fix for this big will be out? The only newer version I see is a Beta I don't plan to touch.
The issue is not horribly widespread and many 1142 are fine, but occasionally some drop and show no power on the LED, but the port is active. A shut/no shut brings them right back.
We also had some bugs with previous versions I do not want to downgrade to. Just hoping a new software release with a fix comes out soon.

The latest version fixes the issue with the 1142's. if you want to wait for the next v7.4.x release, it maybe a month or so.
