Wireless newbie here. I was told not to ever provide the power source to a wireless bridge (350,1310 and 1410) until after an external antenna was installed on the bridge, prior to configuring the bridge. Simple enough to do on the 350 or 1310 but the 1410 requires N-Type connectors for the external antenna. I can't budget for some external dishes for my lab. Is there anything I can attach to the external connector on the 1410 that would allow me to power up the 1410 and start configuring it in my lab. Thanks

As per the document at http://www.cisco.com/en/US/partner/products/hw/wireless/ps5279/prod_technical_reference09186a0080184933.html, you have only two options for the 1400:

Cisco Aironet 1410 Wireless Bridge with 22.5 dBi Antenna, FCC Config

Cisco Aironet 1410 Wireless Bridge with N-Type Connector, FCC Config

i had my radio guys make me a custom N connector 0 db anntenna. essentially it is a paper clip with a N connector approximatly 2 inches long. I was using paper clips before and got really good reception at up to 40 feet. If you read the Documentation you can run the 1410's with out an anntenna but you don't want to set them too close together <6ft. -DB signal strenth of -1db to - 19db will cause damage to your radio's (too hot). Normal operation of these radios runs from -33db to -54db. my little antennas get -30 to -60 depending on the distance and the power settings on the radios. Just remember that with a little straight wire (rubber ducky) antenna with no dish represents an omni-directional antenna. this means that you should set the radios on their backs level with each other no closer than 6ft. i tipically set my radios on carts and roll them apart to the distance that i want and run my thruput tests on them. I have seen up to 24mb/s with my tests. If you don't want to do this you can pick up patch antennas for around $40 with 1ft cables and N connectors. they are not hard to find on the web. oh one more thing.... Leave all your switch ports to auto speed and auto duplex due to the fact that the power injector will mis-negotiate when forced to full/100. fight the logic here my friend. have fun!!!!!!
