2 WLCs see the same SSID as Rogue, does RF Group help?

Hi Guru,

I have 2 C9800 WLCs and set up rogue.

APs that are in different WLCs and are in the same area will see each side's SSID as Rogue, which I manually added both sides as Friendly SSID. If I create a new SSID, I will have to manually add that SSID.

I am not sure if I can set both WLCs to recognize the SSID created by the WLCs as Friendly automatically or if I need to manually add it.

Can using RF Group or Mobility Group help with this?

I found this

"Two AP’s that do not share the same RF Group will not create a neighbor relationship and will treat each other as rogue devices"

https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/wireless/controller/technotes/8-8/b_C9800_rrm_dg.html#id_94106

Does this mean that if I set 2 WLCs to be in the same RF Group, they will not be seen as Rogue? And I do not need to manually add the SSID as Friendly.

Yes, you need to put both WLCs into same RF group. In that way they will not treat each others SSID as rogue.

indeed.  unfortunately TulareCounty  shares RF space with the Superior Court of CA, in the court houses.  So we each create 1 rogue for each ssid on each AP.  lots of friendly's.

Thank you very much for your answer.

I have additional questions.
1. If I have 1 C9800 and 1 5520, can I do the same thing?
2. In this case, there is no need to create a Mobility Group, right?

Without each other WLC in the mobility list not sure they talk to each other.

Even you configure same RF group name and APs sees each other in same RF group name (in respective WLC). It is good test to do an confrim what you see

RF Group will fix this.

Couple things to keep in mind, the 2 WLCs will elect an RF leader, if the WLC is not the RF leader and the RF profiles do not exist on the leader then it will revert to the Global DCA/TPC settings so ensure both WLCs have the same RF profiles as have seen this cause heaps of issues.

If you have Cat Centre (DNAC) and both WLCs are 9800 running 17.7 or above you can use AI RRM and have DNAC be the RF leader do this wont be an issue
