I am planning on getting a used 2504 off of ebay for my home lab and want to know if a solid amber on the ALM LED is a problem? The SYS LED is solid green by the way and this 2504 is just powered on with nothing else connected. Please advise.

Hi,

Thanks for all the replies. I have read all those documents and it's just not clear to me so I was trying ask based on other peoples experiences.

Anyways, appreciate the help. But I bought a brand new box instead as the risk of getting a used 2504 with issues is very high. In my understanding, this box its not as solid or durable as cisco's routers and I have read a lot of bricked WLC 2504s here in this forum so I am glad that i bought a new one and have some peace of mind.

Now it is up and running with 3 x 3602s with AC modules. So far I am very happy with it. The 2504 came with a 7.6.130.0 firmware but I am planning to upgrade to 8.0.110.0 for the new client roaming features. Would it be safe to upgrade the device? I have heard a lot of bricked WLCs after upgrading from this firmware. Please advise, thanks.

I have never had issues upgrading or downgrading. Most RMA's were just out of the box. As far as going to v8.0.110.0, it will be fine, but that is a new code.  v7.6.130.0 is my prefered code right now.  Sometimes, the latest is not really the greatest:)
