2x 1100 AP root and repeater setup problem

hi

I have recently configured 2x 1100 AP (12.3)

1 is the root device and the 2nd is the repeater

i have configured 2 ssid 1 for the infrastructure and the other for the clients,i have secured this using mac authentication.

this is working okay, I did add the mac addresses of the 1100 ap's to the mac authentication list (both ethernet and wifi mac address) in addition i have added the mac address of the root unit on the repeater unit so it knows which AP is its parent.

so far so good.

now when i reset the repeater unit it does not re-authenticate with the root AP.

it comes up with the following event on the root unit event log.

first

Interface Dot11Radio0, Station repeater-AP2 000e.8383.apap Associated KEY_MGMT[NONE]

then

Interface Virtual-Dot11Radio0, changed state to up

followed by

Packet to client 000e.8383.abab reached max retries, removing the client

and finally

Interface Dot11Radio0, Deauthenticating Station 000e.8383.abab Reason: Previous authentication no longer valid

and then

Interface Virtual-Dot11Radio0, changed state to down

the repeater unit can no longer be pinged.

only when i restart the root unit does the repeater unit come back up

is this by design or am i missing something
