Hi everyone
And thank you for an awesome resource!
I was lucky enough to get my hands on this 2504 at work for labbing and had set the goal for last night to convert the two 1252s to lwap and join them with the controller. Just a simple ssid and thats it.
However imagin my frustration when i saw the access points register however with their radios turned off and no way of turning them back on. These are APs i've had running in autonomous mode for some time now so they work just fine.
Fortunately, and since the setup is just a lab for now, i had my console cable hooked to one of the aps so i could see the boot process running. What i have snipped in here below is a part of the console log from after AP01 booted. I googled for some time to figure this out and during my trouble shooting i toggled the dhcp client to reproduce the error message. Same thing, highlightet below, on both aps!
Just a note, during initial setup on the controller i checked both the US and DK for language / region selection. I found a case with the wrong regulartory domain between controller and ap with similar symptoms as highlightet below. I changed the setting to just DK and kept working, since the APs are ETSI regulatory.
What is the problem? And what can i do about it
Thanks in advance!
/Kim

v7.6.130.0 along with FUS 1.9.0.0 is what you should be on. Now the ap and WLC doesn't have to be on the same subnet, but is your ASA blocking the ports the WLC and AP use to join? It's simple to see if your ap comes up fine when they are on the same subnet and then when you move it to a different vlan it doesn't. The switch you would need to hard code the power of it supports that, I don't know, but I would think it would.

The 1252 requires 802.at power to power up both radios. In autonomous, you can use a command to allow the radios to power up with reduced performance. You would need a PoE switch that can supply power or an injector for the 1252. Or you can remove one module also.

Hey Scott!
Thanks, yeah i ran into that problem when i wanted both radius in there and the to APs connected to my ASA. Didnt work ofcourse, and since then i've ever only had on radio module installed. I will look into the poe situation when i get home.
Also, yesterday, just to try something different i added an HP 1910-8G-PoE+, although i havent tried tweaking anything on the port and obviously it wont CDP anything to the AP so...
But does the limited power account for the "Invalid event 10 & state 5 combination"?
Would there be a problem in having the AP and controller on separate vlans routet by the ASA as the router on a stick? Could that be it?
Cheers and thanks
PS: the controller is v7.6 :)

Hey Scott :)
Thanks, well ofcourse now i cant remember the exact versions. I'll check. Tonight i will eliminate the ASA from the equation but it isn't blocking - interfaces are same sec level and interface to interface traffic is allowed with no acls applied so...
Any experience with v8 of the controller software - is it still to early to upgrade or?
Will let you know how it goes.
Cheers :)

I have a 2504 at home and running v8.0.110.0 with FUS 1.9.0.0. It's working fine. But v7.6.130.0 seems to work better for me since I also run indoor mesh. You can always load both images and switch around and see what works best in your environment.

Hi again :)
Thanks for your reply Leo, I was about to 'sh' everything to you guys when the radio led on one of the APs suddently turned on! ;)
Actually, I upgraded the controller to v7.6.130.0. And then, reset the controller to factory defaults... Without checking if the upgrade had worked. After that woila.
So since this is a lab I will downgrade tonight to v7.6.120.0 to try and reproduce the error.
However there was one small detail that baffled me, when i set up the lab I added both US and DK to the language list. I unchecked US when troubleshooting the problem. Then before the upgrade I noticed a log message mentioning a problem with the regulatory domain on the joining AP. The message said something about changing the domain from () to (DK). From nothing to DK. Every time it rebooted...
Anyway, now it works. Thanks Scott and everyone else.
/Kim
