3rd Party Extender on Cisco WLC

Hello,

I'm trying to get a Netgear Nighhawk extender to join a Cisco WLAN as part of a vWLC.  Basically it will join MY_SSID and should add its own MY_SSID_EXT and act as something of a mid-way extender.  This works perfectly on a standalone AP, the device joins, gets an IP address, you can join the "EXT" SSID and get an IP address also.  When its joining the controller-based AP however, a) it doesn't get an IP address and b) you get the Nighthawk internal dhcp, aka unrouteable.  Are there some settings to permit this kind of 3rd party bridge on a controller?  I've gone through all the settings I can think, I've applied it as a "friendly" rogue etc, not sure where to go.

Thanks

Nicholas

(correct) Debug below, seems to be dhcp timeout, I am confused by this as clients get it no problem

So it didn't receive a dhcp discover?

But how strange!  Why does it dhcp fine on a standalone AP?

And what is all this!

When my client joins the extender, I see logs against my laptop MAC indicating WLC is dropping dhcp

 - As far , as the issue is concerned, you might be better off, by investing your money in a few extra lightweight AP's , because of the TPC and DCA automation algorithms used by a controller. In a worst case scenario the extender might even interfere with that.
