5508 HA Configuration with VSS Cores

We are trying to deploy an HA setup with our 5508 controllers. I read somewhere that we can do this with VSS cores. My question is exactly how should I connect the primary and HA controllers RP to the VSS cores?

Currently right now all vlans are being spanned between the VSS cores through two interfaces, do I configure those two interfaces to span the redundancy vlan as well or does the redundancy vlan need to be separated and have its own link to the RP on the controllers.

My initial thought was to setup a port on the VSS cores as an access port with the redundancy vlan assigned to those ports, will this type of setup work or is there more configuration that I need to do.

Thanks

The RP's are meant to be connected point to point.  Are the controllers near each other so you can do this?  If so, they should not go through the VSS core at all.

Then however you trunk VLANs to the first 5508 do exactly the same for the second 5508.

Hi Philip,

The controllers are in two different buildings. The link that you provided has a section about 5508 controllers being connected to VSS cores. What I am wondering is, can the Redundancy vlan be passed by the VSL between the two VSS cores or does it have to have it's own port channel.

The guide doesn't have a lot of configuration information about connecting 5508's to VSS, it does say that it is supported.

Thanks,

Colin

You should be able to do this.  Create a new VLAN.  Put an port into it in each building and make it an access port.  Plug the RP ports into this.
