My CCNA expires today. I did and failed the CCNP Route exam last week. Can I do the CCNP route Exam and renew my CCNA thereafter?

HI,
As per my experiences:
no, you will not be CCNP(Officially) until pass CCNA.
The associate and professional level exams do not have to be taken in any particular order, so you can take and pass the CCNP exams even without a valid CCNA certification(Because your cert is expired). However, you will not be certified in CCNP until you fulfill all requirements.
To get official CCNP certification you must pass CCNA again.( Cisco policy )

If you pass the 642 level test before the end of the day, then yes it will keep your CCNA valid. If you take the test tomorrow, then you will need to retake the CCNA.
HTH,
Steve
