Advice WLC Setup

Hi friends

Soon will have WLC 5508 with 15 Access Point. Our existing setup includes Windows 2008 AD structure. DHCP, DNS, Radius service are installed on Win2008. I got some doubts, please help to clear these.

  1. Any advantages of using WLC local DHCP service option Vs our existing Windows 2008 DHCP structure
  2. Access Point should have Static IP or get Dynamic IP from Management Vlan range
  3. I see lot of document and config example for WLC & Cisco ACS Radius Authentication then Microsoft 2008 Radius with WLC. Any close pinpoints for any Integration issue of WLC with Microsoft Radius
  4. For High Availability of Wireless Service, is it recommended to have DHCP on Win2008 Server or on WLC. (i.e) 2 x WLC installed on different location and one WLC goes off then all AP will register to another WLC (consdering reachability is there )
  5. Can we limit the number of Clients registering each AP

Many thanks in advance

God Bless

I would not recommend anyone using the WLC as a DHCP server.  No siree!

Access Point should have Static IP or get Dynamic IP from Management Vlan range

STATIC!

Can we limit the number of Clients registering each AP

Yes and No.  To a particular AP, NO (if the answer is YES, then it defeats the purpose of "roaming").  To the entire WLAN AP, YES.

You can also limit the amount of clients connected to a particular SSID.

Thanks.

Any recommended books to read for best practise deployment guide on different scenario. I am already reading cisco available guides.

Many thanks in advance

Nope.  I'd read the deployment and configuration guides.

Thanks.

on WLC there is Service Port , Management port and Uplink ports to Core

Access Point connects to POE Switch.

POE Switch connects to Core Switch

When a user connects to any Access Point How the traffic passes to the Core?? I am trying to understand if all traffic hits the WLC and then goes to the Core or it goes directly from AP-->POE-->Core

Help me to understand this

God Bless
