AIR1815I-K9 - CAPWAP¨to ME - AP does not upgrade (tftp transfert goes to 100% but nothing more) - CAPWAP State : Discovery trouble ?

Hello,

Trying to convert an AIR-AP1815I-K9 access point from CAPWAP to ME, installation of a new image fails.

IP adress assignement  -> OK

Pinging with tftp server -> OK

.tar image download -> reach 100% but stuck there.

During the process, console output messages about CAPWAP state : Discovery. And after 35 tries, AP reboots.

(attached image show console messages).

Somebody have a clue about this issue (could not convert CAPWAP to ME).

Thank you.

Do you have enough space left? Show flash and see and if you have any images, delete all except for the rcv image.

You can try a different image, but also make sure you verify the md5 hash of the download. You can also stop the rebooting of the ap by issuing these commands from the console:

debug capwap con CLI
debug capwap client no-reload

These are hidden commands so just paste/type these in.

thank you for you help (and hidden commands). will be helpfull.

ti'm rying several images as suggested.

have a nice day.

Just keep in mind, you don’t always have to use the latest image. All you need to do is convert the ap, then you can upgrade later. This will save you time trying to figure out how to get it to work especially if the issue is with that image.

Hello Scot,

AP is curently running 8.5.140.0 version

I tried to upgrade using the following (without any success) :

- AIR-AP1815-K9-ME-8-5-131-0.tar

- AIR-AP1815-K9-ME-8-5-135-0.tar

- AIR-AP1815-K9-ME-8-5-140-0.tar

- AIR-AP1815-K9-ME-8-5-151-0.tar

- AIR-AP1815-K9-ME-8-5-160-0.tar

- AIR-AP1815-K9-ME-8-8-125-0.tar

Each time, transfert bar reach 100%, but no ME image verification.

When trying directly with me_image or part.bin file uncompressed from archive, ME verification triggres, but not suitable for the AP.

BTW testinf tftp server from another workstation show it delivers files correctly.

I really don't understand what's going on here

What instructions are you following?

I'm following this procedure :

Connecting AP, assigning IP adress with DHCP server (also tried with static IP with #capwap ap ip ip_addr netmask gateway).

# enable

ping to tftp server in order to test connectivity

# ap-type mobility-express tftp://tftp_ip_address/AIR-AP1815-K9-ME-8-5-140-0.tar

Transfer starts, reach 100%, then stuck there, prompting 100% bar several times.

Thank you again for your help, best regards

You are suppose to extract that tar file and use the specific image for your model ap. That is why the transfer is not working.

Here are files in this .tar file (uncompressed in a subfolder) :

btldr.bin.lzma ; btldr_crete.bin.lzma ; btldr_crete_md5 ; btldr_md5 ; file_hashes ; final_hash ; info ; info.ver ; iosap_info

me_image ; part.bin

I tried the following :

#ap-type mobility-express tftp://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/subfolder/me_image

#ap-type mobility-express tftp://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/subfolder/part.bin

With the following result (regardless of file) :

Starting the ME image download....

################################# 100%

Image transfer complete

Image downloaded, writing to flash...

do CHECK_ME, part2 is active part

tar: short read

tar: short read

upgrade.sh: Image provided does not support Mobility Expressfunctonality

Tried with files inside following archives : 8-5-131-0.tar, 8-5-135-0.tar, 8-5-140-0.tar, 8-5-151-0.tar, 8-5-160-0.tar, 8-8-125-0.tar without sucess :s

Also tried to upgrade to newer version (ap1g5-k9w8-tar.153-3.JK.tar) with the following command :

#archive download-sw /reload tftp://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/ap1g5-k9w8-tar.153-3.JK.tar

Still stuch with at 100% downloaded, and no possibility for upgrade.

I can notice a strange behavoir of the cursor when transfer show full progressbar and reach 100% (with acrhive downlad and ap-type).

Thank you for your attention.

Anthony

Hello Scoot,

#show flash   => 54.3MB free space (enough for .tar image : approx 45 MB)

I'll investigate around my tftp server & timeout settings.

Take care.

Anthony

Finally managed to convert those AP to Mobility Express, thousands thanks for your support Scott.

Your suggestion about free space gave me the clue :

TFTP server must grant write access to the AP.

This mean atftpd have to be used instead of tftpd.

Thank you again for your patience with me, great support.

No problem. Glad you found your answer yourself. Good job!
